We’re excited to announce that our next Open Home with Dulux is the home of Tom and Hollie Norman – a hard-working family house with some serious eco credentials.
The couple found the site after a six-month search – this one was close to the city and sheltered, with an established country feel at the foot of the Port Hills. A previous quake-damaged house had already been demolished, but established trees on the site remained. “We just wanted to look after the land and not disturb it too much,” says Tom.
They kept earthworks to a minimum, using timber piles instead of a concrete slab, and reused as much soil as they could. Solar panels line the roof. Water tanks collect and treat much of the house’s rain and grey water before diverting it back into the house to be used. And they hand-sorted waste during the build, sending as much as possible to be recycled.
That aside, it’s a family home designed to be fun and hard-wearing, with palpable pops of colour inspired by the sunrise, and an airy feel. We look forward to seeing you there.
